PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Establishing a Toyota Konpon
Research Institute Model,
discovering new knowledge
to connect with society.

The Toyota Konpon Research Institute was established on June 11, 1996, by the late Eiji Toyoda and Shoichiro Toyoda, with the aim of returning to the basics (KONPON) for the future of humanity and the Earth. Since its establishment, the institute has contributed to the development of energy and environmental technologies through comprehensive research, including natural and human sciences.

As we approach our 30th anniversary, and as society undergoes significant changes with the rise of AI and advancements in various scientific fields, the institute’s role has become increasingly important. It focuses on basic research and aims to contribute to society.

The institute collaborates with diverse academic institutions to explore basic research themes that lead to new insights and provides opportunities for the Toyota Group to engage with the latest science.

Noboru Kikuchi, Ph.D.
